Reorganising businesses into Solar Communications Group.

Established in 1989, Solar was acquired by entrepreneur and chief executive Mark Colquhoun in 2007.

It is now the fourth fastest growing telecoms company in the UK and has won international awards for the quality of its service.

Before acquiring Solar, Mark had already sold a successful telecommunications business and set up his second, Drumbeat Communications. Like any owner-managed business, Drumbeat's ultimate goal was to be a market leader; however, prior to Target's appointment the company had reached a size whereby growth to the next level was difficult to achieve without further investment, changes in structure and strategic acquisitions.

Our initial brief was to advise Drumbeat on its future growth plans. After mapping out the business strategy with Mark, we undertook a financial due diligence exercise on Solar, which was the company's first acquisition. This involved keeping a close eye on the tax position of Drumbeat and its shareholders to ensure the best value was achieved.

Following the acquisition, Target supported the reorganisation of the businesses into the Solar Communications group. Our team has since worked with Solar to provide audit and compliance services, strategic business advice and other advisory work on an ongoing basis.
